About
The Château de Parentignat is sometimes nicknamed the little Versailles of Auvergne, in the Puy-de-Dôme department in central France. Built starting in 1707, it has belonged to the Lastic family since it was first constructed.
It holds one of the most significant collections of old master paintings still in private hands.
The estate was acquired in 1707 by Jean-Antoine and François II de Lastic; the château was developed through the end of the 18th century. It has never left the Lastic family.
The château houses the Georges de Lastic collection, one of the most important private collections of French old master paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The gardens, originally laid out in the French style, were transformed into an English-style garden in the early 19th century.
Listed as a historic monument since 1972, the château is open to the public and hosts events; it reopened in 1994 after restoration.
