Key facts
ProtectionInscrit MH
Inscrit monument historique: the second level of heritage protection in France, decided by the regional prefect. Owners must notify the state before any work on the protected parts, and the regional heritage authority (the DRAC) reviews it.
About
With its I-shaped layout and reinforced square keep, the château du Blanc-Buisson has kept the look of a medieval fortified house, in the southern part of the Eure department, in Normandy. Built in the late 13th century, it survived the Hundred Years' War before being remodeled several times.
Built in 1290 by Colinet Lecomte, the château was partly destroyed in 1355, during the Hundred Years' War. It was rebuilt by Jean du Merle after 1474, then remodeled in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. The de La Fresnaye family has owned it since 1801.
Listed as a historic monument in 1949, the château was restored over some thirty years. Run by an association, it now hosts performances, festivals, and stays.
