Hauts-de-Seine · Île-de-France· Works internationally· Since 1974

Independent auction house founded in 1974 by Claude Aguttes, a specialist in the sale of major collections and furniture, based in Neuilly-sur-Seine, just west of Paris.

The youngest auctioneer in France at the time, Claude Aguttes founded his auction house in Clermont-Ferrand in 1974. In 1995 the house moved to Neuilly-sur-Seine, west of Paris, to adapt to the liberalization and internationalization of the art market, and its headquarters are still there. In 2008 it opened a representative office at the Brotteaux station in Lyon. Today it has a saleroom west of Paris and representative offices across France, as well as in Brussels and Geneva.

An independent house with no outside shareholder, still family-run with three of the founder's children working in it, Aguttes relies on a team of 60 people. It celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024 and is now led by Philippine Dupré la Tour, with Claude Aguttes remaining president and auctioneer.

The house covers some fifteen specialist departments, including Old Master paintings, Impressionist, modern and contemporary art, Asian art, furniture and works of art, rare books and manuscripts, jewelry and natural pearls, watches, collector cars, and wine and spirits. In 2016 the commercial court appointed it to inventory, preserve and sell the Aristophil collections. In 2018 it became the first independent auction house to exceed €50 million in sales, and its sales volume reached €58.7 million in 2024.

On the château side, Aguttes was notably entrusted with the sale of two collections from châteaux featured on So Châteaux: Château du Sailhant (2025) and Château de Charmes (2026).
